Paramus is a central Bergen County borough best known for one of the largest concentrations of retail development in the New York metropolitan region. Routes 4 and 17 and the Garden State Parkway intersect within the borough, supporting major shopping centers, offices, hotels, healthcare facilities, and automotive businesses. Paramus also includes established residential neighborhoods, schools, municipal facilities, parks, and Bergen Community College. Van Saun County Park, which includes the Bergen County Zoo, is a major recreation destination along the eastern side. Despite its commercial prominence, much of Paramus remains residential away from the main highway corridors. The borough borders Hackensack, Ridgewood, Fair Lawn, Rochelle Park, River Edge, Oradell, and several other Bergen County communities. Its central location and extensive road network make it a key employment, shopping, and institutional center for the county.
