Old Bridge Township is a large suburban municipality in eastern Middlesex County, extending from inland neighborhoods to the Raritan Bay shoreline. Route 9 is its main commercial and transportation corridor, with Route 18, Route 34, and several county roads connecting different sections of the township. Old Bridge includes established neighborhoods, newer residential developments, shopping centers, schools, parks, professional offices, and areas of light industry. Cheesequake State Park occupies a significant natural area near the township’s northern edge, offering forests, wetlands, trails, and camping. The community’s size has produced several distinct local areas rather than one traditional downtown. Its location provides access to central New Jersey employment centers, the Garden State Parkway, the New Jersey Turnpike, and coastal communities in Monmouth County. Several historic sites also remain within the township.
