Plainsboro Township is located in southern Middlesex County beside Princeton and the Mercer County line. The community combines planned residential neighborhoods, corporate and research campuses, schools, healthcare facilities, farmland, and protected open space. U.S. Route 1 forms the township’s principal commercial and employment corridor, linking Plainsboro with New Brunswick, Trenton, and the wider central New Jersey region. Princeton Junction station in neighboring West Windsor provides major rail service to Newark, New York City, and Philadelphia. The township includes the historic village of Plainsboro as well as newer communities developed around lakes, parks, and interconnected roadways. The Plainsboro Preserve offers trails and environmental education around McCormack Lake, while additional parks and recreation facilities serve residents throughout the municipality. Plainsboro borders South Brunswick, Cranbury, Princeton, and West Windsor. Its growth has been closely associated with nearby universities, research institutions, and the Route 1 business corridor, yet the township continues to retain open land and a distinct suburban identity.
