Woodbridge Township is located in northeastern Middlesex County and includes several distinct communities, including Woodbridge, Iselin, Avenel, Colonia, Fords, Port Reading, Sewaren, and Hopelawn. Its position near the New Jersey Turnpike, Garden State Parkway, Routes 1 and 9, and Route 35 makes it a major transportation and employment center. Metropark and Woodbridge stations provide rail access along the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line. The township contains established residential neighborhoods, extensive retail development, office centers, industrial and warehouse districts, schools, parks, and waterfront areas along the Arthur Kill. Woodbridge Center and the Route 1 corridor are important commercial destinations, while older village centers and neighborhood business districts give different sections of the township their own local character. Its size and transportation access have produced a particularly diverse mix of land uses.
