Succasunna is the largest and most centrally located of Roxbury Township’s six principal communities. It contains the township’s municipal complex, major shopping areas, schools, established residential neighborhoods, and the historic village centered near Main Street. Route 10 passes through the community and provides access to Randolph, Ledgewood, Morris Plains, and Interstate 287. Horseshoe Lake Recreation Complex is one of Succasunna’s best-known public spaces, with athletic fields, paths, a lake, and community facilities. Older homes and local landmarks near the village center reflect the area’s early development, while postwar neighborhoods and newer commercial properties extend across the surrounding area. Succasunna is not separately incorporated and shares government, schools, and public services with the rest of Roxbury Township. Its central location, broad mix of land uses, and concentration of civic facilities make it the everyday hub of the township and a key community in western Morris County.
