North Branch is an unincorporated community centered in Branchburg Township in western Somerset County. The area developed around the North Branch of the Raritan River, early roads, farms, and the railroad corridor. The NJ Transit station on the Raritan Valley Line provides service toward Somerville, Newark, and connecting destinations, while Routes 28, 202, and 22 link the community with Bridgewater, Raritan, Flemington, and surrounding townships. Raritan Valley Community College is one of the area's largest institutions and contributes to daily activity near the village. North Branch includes older homes, newer residential development, offices, schools, local businesses, and industrial properties distributed across a wider suburban landscape. It is not separately incorporated and relies on Branchburg Township for local government and municipal services. The community's rail stop, river setting, and educational presence give it a recognizable identity within the larger township.
