Glenwood is a community in the northern part of Vernon Township, Sussex County, near the New York State line. It lies in the Pochuck Valley, where farms, wetlands, wooded hills, and long mountain views create a distinctly rural setting. Route 517 passes through the area and connects Glenwood with Vernon, Warwick, Hardyston, and other communities in northern Sussex County. The Appalachian Trail crosses nearby, and the surrounding landscape includes access to hiking, wildlife areas, and outdoor recreation. Residential development is spread among older homes, newer subdivisions, and larger rural parcels rather than concentrated around a formal downtown. Glenwood is not separately incorporated and relies on Vernon Township for municipal services, schools, parks, and local government. The community’s name is used for postal addresses and remains a familiar geographic reference within the township. Its valley location and proximity to the state line distinguish it from Vernon’s lake communities and resort areas farther south.
